When you think of the beach, the first thing that comes to mind is sand. But in this unusual beach there is no sand at all. This beautiful beach is called “Red Beach” because of the suede, a type of seaweed that turns red each fall.
Red Beach is situated in Dowa county 30 kilometers of Panjin, China. It refers to the top scenic area of the city in a 100 square kilometers (39 square miles) reed field. The suede starts growing during April and May and it stays green during the summertime. In the fall, it gets its most beautiful color – vividly red.
There is a controversy among scientists about the very same grass not being so red somewhere else. It is most likely that the red color of the grass comes from the alkaline-saline soil.
This largest coastal wetland is annually visited by thousands of tourists who remain amazed by the beauty of this place. In addition to this stunning landscape, here you can see over 399 species of wild animals and 260 species of birds that live here, as well as endangered Crown Cranes and Black Beaked Gulls, which is why the area is even called “home of the cranes”. Some of this birds often migrate between Southeast Asia and Australia to enjoy the cool summer, and some of them are permanent residents.
What to do?
The whole ecosystem was protected by the country since 1988, and to remain so, most of the Red Beach is closed to tourists. There is only one small section where access to tourists is allowed. In order to get a better look around this area, there is a wooden bridge that takes you from the land to the sea. From this place you can capture the most fascinating photos, if you are a photographer.
